Economic Development Commission
Meeting Minutes
February 5th, 2013 5:00pm
City Hall Auditorium

Attendance: Jim Thibault, Tim Waldron, JoAnn Ryan, Dawn Gutowski, Bill Battle, Stephen Michna, Lisa Soliani, Nancy Sieller.    Guests included: Stephanie Barksdale, Co-Chair Fit Together; Fred Rogers

Meeting called to order at 5:02pm.  Vote to open the meeting to the public motioned by Bill Battle, seconded by Stephen Michna

Motion to approve the minutes of the December meeting by Nancy Sieller, seconded by Bill Battle
Chairman Jim Thibault welcomed new commissioner Lisa Soliani to the EDC

Guest speaker Stephanie Barksdale of Fit Together spoke to the EDC about their program that is a collaboration between the YMCA and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.  It’s goal is to promote health and wellness throughout the region.  EDC commissioners are invited to attend the advisory committee meeting on March 8th at 10:00am at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital

Tim Waldron and Jim Thibault briefed the EDC on the recent City Council approval of Stephen Warshaw to act as the Marketing Consultant for the City of Torrington.  Rose Ponte will update the EDC regarding defined goals and budget for the consultant.  

Jim Thibault notified the EDC that business visits were being planned and dates would be available soon.  
The EDC discussed the proposed EDC website, Jim Thibault said that progress would soon be under way to begin designing and creating this website.  

Nancy Sieller questioned the current status of the relationship between the Warner Theatre and KidsPlay, JoAnn Ryan had informed the group that KidsPlay would be moving forward as a non-profit group with a volunteer board as was the plan.  

Old Business-
Bill Battle updated the commission that he is in talks with both the principal of OWTS and Torrington Public Schools Superintendent regarding local schools and manufacturing companies in our area working together.  JoAnn Ryan said that the Chamber Manufacturing Coalition is doing similar work.  

Tim Waldron informed the group of some upcoming downtown events regarding The Arts Desire, and the 5 Points Gallery.
